Homework
The primary purpose of homework is to teach responsibility and reinforce classroom information. If classwork is not finished, it becomes homework. It is the student’s responsibility to record homework in planner daily and complete it on time. Third grade is an important step in the academic development of students and homework has an important role in this process. If you have after school activities you will have to set priorities and practice time management to ensure that assignments are completed. As part of the homework component, students are also expected to read nightly five days a week for twenty minutes. This reading assignment is done on the honor system and students and parents are encouraged to fully participate so as to better develop the student’s reading comprehension. Since there are many new concepts in third grade, I appreciate your reinforcement nightly, but even more important your student will thank you too! Please also note that students have math nightly if it is not completed in class. They will have a Reading Comprehension page given to them on Monday night and it is due on Fridays.
